Summerfields River Lodge and Rose Spa – Scent of an African Farm
Perhaps it’s a fusion of African sensibilities with the rose from which Summerfields River Lodge & Rose Spa derives its intriguing charm. Or is it the bygone romance underscored by percale linen in a tented lodge suite? If not that then the fact that you may take a treatment in a spa pavilion set beside the river in which hippos bath at dusk?
Along with a gourmet kitchen, all of this defines Summerfields River Lodge & Rose Spa as a most enchanting place to re-ignite your senses.
Nestled on 100ha in a secluded valley near Hazyview in Mpumalanga province 10km from the world famous Kruger National Park, Summerfields River Lodge & Rose Spa comprises a lodge, spa and restaurant, set on Summerfields Rose Farm, famous for its export quality hybrid tea roses and macadamia nuts (sold at the farm and in Johannesburg).

With take off from a nearby Gauteng regional airport, within minutes of arrival at Summerfields you will be immersed into rejuvenation, health and relaxation.
At the Spa you will find both indulgence and immediate healing in a variety of unique, signature treatments and facilities such as the rose quartz steam shower.
Then, take dinner over-looking the valley and be mesmerized by chef Lienkie Erasmus’ culinary skill (already praised on the gourmet circuit for her modern take on classics, embracing fresh, local produce).
Luxuriously appointed, tented suites are set beneath a canopy of Jackalberry and Tambotie trees while Summerfields prides itself on service that is sublime and genteel.
In the vicinity are all the adventurous ideas one might want to consider – from game drives to tree canopy aerial walkways - though you will be excused for simply wanting to spend all your time at Summerfields River Lodge & Rose Spa, the essential place to stop and smell the roses.
Summerfields River Lodge
The river lodge consists of 12 exclusive tented suites under a canopy of Jackalberry and Tambotie trees, surrounded by the music of nature – the sounds of cascading water, amplified by a choir of bird calls and the occasional snort of a hippo. Each luxurious suite ensures total privacy whilst relaxing on the deck with views of the Sabie River, which runs to the Mozambique coastline.
Attention to detail is evident in every rose-variety suite, ensuring a memorable experience, with specially designed furniture, percale linen and the tantalizing fragrance of fresh cut roses from the farm. All units are air-conditioned with additional roof fans, have double vanities, an outdoor shower and a luxury bath, and are stocked with quality toiletries, and a private fridge for the comfort of guests.

Summerfields Kitchen
Savour a gourmet dining experience set in “The Valley” between Hazyview and Sabie on Summerfields Estate. This is where tranquility, beauty, fresh flavours and a passion for good quality happily co-exist.
Summerfields Kitchen has earned a reputation in its first few months as a gourmet establishment and a must-visit whilst touring the Lowveld. Summerfields kitchen offers a unique dining experience lending itself to interaction between chef and customers, be it for a lazy weekend breakfast, light lunch, hearty dinner or just sundowners on the deck.
Summerfields Kitchen was built as a destination for locals and foreigners alike where old farmstyle meets upmarket country.
The diverse menu is prepared by chef Lienkie Erasmus (trained and qualified at Spier estate) who has worked extensively both locally and abroad. The menu is influenced by the fresh produce in season supplied by local farmers and from the restaurant’s own garden. Everything from chutneys, mayonnaise and bread are homemade. Picnic baskets can be arranged for the more adventurous when going on game drives or making use of the activities offered in the area ranging from hot air ballooning to river rafting.
“I keep everything simple and fresh, using only top quality ingredients and produce, where a smaller menu change on a regular basis with daily specials ensures that high standards are maintained and keep all my trainees on their toes.”

Starters of prawn, mango and sunflower seed salad, deli platters of homemade pesto, tapenades and marinated artichokes followed by lamb cutlets with rosemary potatoes, crocodile curry and rump with parmesan mash and green peppercorns sauce will only be complemented by a pavlova with Chantilly cream, confetti of fruit and vanilla syrup, and irresistible milktart, or a cheese platter that will do any fire place, loving couple and good bottle of red proud.
Our wines have been carefully selected, tasted, and some more . . . having gone with a few old faithfuls like the Rubicon, Rupert & Rothschild, Haute Cabriere and L’Ormarins, to a couple of new slightly frisky recruits like the Cape point Sauvignon Blanc and the Groote Post “Old Mans blend”. For the more adventurous a Gosset Grande Réserve in true French tradition is also available.
Décor and table arrangements are a mere formality with direct access to the largest rose supplier of the Lowveld market.
As a venue, for a family get together, special function or a home away from home, Summerfields Kitchen welcomes you in true Lowveld style.
